Sunnah of Cooking
Sunnah of Cooking.
Growing up in India I have seen many women around me cooking at home. Of course, all of them cook in different styles and tastes. But that’s not the thing I am going to talk about. I will be talking about the entertainment women have while cooking. The majority of women I saw, talk on their cell phones with family and friends. Some watch Netflix kept on top of the refrigerator or kitchen counter, while few are in deep thoughts regretting their past or worrying about the future.
Do we want to feed the food to our loved ones which we prepared accompanied by shaitan and there were no blessings of Allah?
Cooking food is our daily routine, think if you do it the way Allah loves, what tremendous rewards and blessings we will be getting.
Here’s a short reminder for all those Muslim sisters who cook food for their loved ones. May ALLAH guide us to the right path. (Ameen)
The following are some Sunnah of cooking.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)said;
“He who loves my sunnah has loved me, and he who loved me will be with me in paradise”
Wudhu / Ablution
Have wudhu before you start cooking, a person with wudhu is safe from shaitan(evil spirits). Wudhu purifies us by washing out our sins.
Niyat / Intention
Have the intention of making food to solely please ALLAH, and not for the praises and compliments of people. Doing so, cooking will be conducted as ibadat(worship), and you will be rewarded for that.Cover head and hair
Not only while cooking, one should always keep her hair covered, to keep the angels of mercy present around oneself. Also, you won't get embarrassed when someone pulls out a hair from food.
Begin with BISMILLAH. (In the name of ALLAH)
Start your every work by saying BISMILLAH(In the name of ALLAH) to get blessings from ALLAH.
Ingredients
Always check the ingredients if they are Halal (permissible/lawful). Be conscious while buying groceries.
Dhikr/ Remembering Allah
Do lots of dhikr and recite durood while cooking. The love of ALLAH and his Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) will enter into the hearts of those who eat the food. Also, you can recite duas and surahs.
Do not waste the food while cooking, not even a single grain. ALLAH hates israaf (wasteful/extravagant), and this could lead to a reduction in ni’aamat (favors).
Say ALHAMDULILLAH (all praises to ALLAH).
SAY ALHAMDULILLAH upon completing, as ALLAH has given you the ability to cook, and put a taste in your food. He has chosen you to satiate the hunger of people.
